AUDI A4 B6 AVANT BOOT DETAIL

Today we have “attacked” the boot of an Audi A4 Avant Quattro Exclusive, in what you may call a partial car interior detail.

Looking at the “before” photos it doesn’t seem too bad, however, this boot area has not seen so much as a vacuum cleaner in over a year. Do keep in mind this is a daily driven car.

So, there is dirt everywhere and some has over time been caught by water and/or moisture and has gone deep into the carpet fibers.

Obviously, we started with a nice detailed vacuum on every surface. Once we were satisfied we had caught most of the lose debris, we moved on to the carpet foam, panel by panel.

Let the solution soak for a minute and it’s time to hit it with the carpet brush on a drill – it is quite a big boot, after all.

When that is done, I used the extractor to pull the moist and the dirt pulled by the agitation of the carpet brush.

After all the panels are done, I lightly spray a little bit of APC (all purpose cleaner) over all the surfaces and perform one last extraction.

While this now sits to dry a tiny bit more, we go for the surrounding trims and panels, which I dusted before all of this, so not to be throwing dirt onto our freshly cleaned carpets.

All the plastics are now cleaned with APC and a detail brush, that allows us to reach every corner, hole and hidden space where the dirt might like to hide.

Almost done… Time to condition the plastics with Meguiars Ultimate Interior Detailer (yes, this is also a cleaner but who said there is such a thing as “too clean”?) and wipe off any excess conditioner.
I quickly cover the exposed panels and clean the rear windows – I like to do them last in case I have splatters or smears from the trims and panels step.

Last but not least, I spray some new car scent over the carpets before a final all-over brush in the same direction. Of course, I could not resist and try my hand at the famous carpet stripe “trick” we see all over the internet – I will be the first to say they are not the best but… hey, practice makes perfect!

And now, the moment you have been waiting for…

In Conclusion

As good as it may look, we need to be aware that this is a 23 year old auto and there will always be things and spots that detailing can’t solve – the loose net on the left, the floor grabs, the alignment of the boot side panels and a few other details.

This is what you need to keep in mind, whether you are planning to detail yourself or getting your car detailed by a professional. You need to keep your expectations realistic, regarding the vehicle you have and the current state of it.

All in all, we have thoroughly enjoyed this small service and can’t wait to detail the rest of the interior!
