Is a car drying towel yet another fad or is actually useful? Let’s find out…
I used to dry my car with a few microfibre cloths and was happy with the results. Nah, I’m not spending that much on a towel – or so I thought.
One day, thanks to a coupon I was given for a detailing supplies website, I decided to order one and find out what all the fuss is about. And let me tell you, I was mind blown! What have I been missing?!
I completely dried my car in 2 or 3 minutes. Again, I was mind blown! No ringing, no extra towels… Just wipe and it’s dry. And, please note, the car was untreated at that moment, so all the water was just sitting on the panels.
I can say I am now fully converted and have even ordered a Giant Drying Towel (80x160cm) to make my job even easier when detailing bigger cars.
Now, don’t get me wrong… Is it possible to dry a car without a dedicated drying towel? Yes, totally. It will just take longer, be harder and increase the chances for water marks, spots and, above all, minor scratches due to the increased contact when compared to a super absorving, water magnet that is a proper car drying towel.
Ready to give it a try?
If you are not a professional detailer, a “regular” towel like this CarPro Drying Towel is a good starting point.

This is a 540gpsm microfiber drying towel, measuring 70 x 100cm which, by most standards, should be well enough to start you into the world of fluffy big MF towels. Use this one to learn how to maintain them (washing, drying, storing…) before you move on to higher tier towels.
Believe me, I wish i had done that before spending almost 60€ (even with the coupon I told you I was given) in my first one and then fretting about what to do so I wouldn’t spoil it (or my car’s paint) once I got it out of the bag!
